Newsletter October 2024
Hello friends,
I hope September treated you well and that you are safe and sound from the terrible storms.
It’s springtime here in New Zealand, but we still enjoy some of the trappings of the Northern Hemisphere’s autumn. (I do look forward to my yearly pumpkin spice latte as we get further into the month) The teens have already dragged Tim down to the local beach for their first swim of the season, but it is far too chilly for me at this stage!

⭐️ New features survey results ⭐️
Thank you so much to everyone who filled in our survey about proposed features for the refreshed version of Home Routines, which we plan to release before the end of the year.
Update: it’s available now!
We were so delighted to hear from folks who have been using our wee app for many years, some for over a decade (!)
From what we’ve heard from y’all, we are on the right track with the features we are prioritising:
- A refreshed, more modern look and feel
- More options and more flexibility in zones scheduling
- An option to add a recurrence schedule to individual tasks within routines or zones
- An option to add a due date to your one-off tasks in a to do list
- End-to-end encryption, iCloud sync, dark mode, and improved accessibility
⭐️How the new app will work⭐️
We will be releasing the refreshed app separately from the original, so we won’t be overwriting the original app that you paid for. (I don’t like it when recipes change, or apps update overnight and become weird!)
It will be a free download, and you will be able to import your existing routines, zones and schedule setup, so you won’t have to recreate them all.
The app is not our day job, but Tim and I have spent much of our “spare” time in the past few years updating and rewriting Home Routines from scratch. Tim has incorporated a lot of the new features that Apple has made available since 2010, many of them behind the scenes, while still keeping the bits that you’re fond of.
But we have so many more cool ideas we want to incorporate!
So we are going to be introducing an inexpensive subscription so we can offer you even more new and useful features.
⭐️What will you get with Home Routines Premium?⭐️
- Mark off tasks on your Apple watch
- Share and collaborate on individual lists
- Get started and avoid overwhelmed with a “Just One Thing!” view that focuses on one task at a time
- Extra flair (colours! Icon choice!)
- Support our tiny, independent app development company, so we will be able to add even more awesome stuff! We have so many ideas for small improvements lined up already, and would love to be able to release regular updates to get these out into the world.
The core of the app – routines, zones, to-do lists and timer etc – will all be free, of course. We know times are hard at the moment for a lot of people, and it’s so important to us that we keep the fundamentals free, to help as many people as we can 🩵
Please stay safe amongst it all!
